Amy and Jon's wedding is one of the best examples of what Chris and I are able to do. Not only did we make some awesome ties and clip-on bow ties for them, but we did it with an incredibly fast turnaround. Hands-down, this is one of my favorite weddings we have ever done, not just because of the products, but because of the story behind it.
Amy found Chris and I at one of our many local markets, the Firefly Handmade. Chris and I talk to a lot of people on a day-to-day basis at these things, but we try really hard to remember the couples interested in getting a custom wedding; like I have said time and time again, weddings are fun, so I always try to make a good connection with each couple. When Amy and Jon reached out to us, I immediately remembered who they were. They sent an inquiry about getting some handmade ties for their wedding with one small catch: their wedding was in less than two weeks.
This was the tightest deadline we had ever had, but I was confident that we could make it work. I set up some late night fabric shopping with Amy and Jon at Fancy Tiger Crafts and we were perusing until just before they locked the doors. Their color scheme was pretty simple: white and green with pink flowers. The bridesmaids were all going to be wearing different dresses, so they wanted something fun for the guys to wear. We landed on a gorgeous green paisley for Jon and a pink and green geometric pattern for his groomsmen. This helped to separate Jon from the rest of the guys, but still tied into the color theme they had planned. The tail of each tie was a muted navy blue polka dot, which made each tie filled with color and pattern.
As we were about to leave, Jon and Amy asked if they could have one more thing done. They needed two clip-on bow ties: one fore their nephew and one for their dog. Anyone in our inner circle knows that we have been asked about dog bow ties on several occasions. We've tossed around the idea of making them, but we have never been sure if it fits with the brand we've built. However, only days before I met with Amy and Jon, Chris and I made an agreement: we would do dog bow ties for weddings only. Lo and behold, Amy and Jon wanted exactly that. I laughed a bit to myself and was happy to oblige.
Chris and I got to work on five neckties and two clip-on bow ties on the shortest schedule we have ever had: six days. I was getting ready to go out of town to New Orleans, so Chris and I had to move fast! By some miracle, we finished the entire order, from scratch, in just under four days. I generally like to hand deliver our wedding orders myself, but as I was out of town, Chris took it upon himself to make the delivery. Chris drove out the day before the wedding to deliver the order and even went as far to sew a clip-on to the dog's collar, just to make sure it wouldn't fall off during the ceremony.
As I mentioned before, this is one of my favorite weddings to talk about. I couldn't believe we got everything done and, even more, how well it all turned out. Amy and Jon were so much fun to work with and we couldn't be happier that they chose to work with us. Thanks again, Amy and Jon!
"My wife, Amy, and I would like to start by expressing how awesome of an experience it was working with Hugh and Chris at HIM Clothing. We had found out about them through an art/trade show and were interested in seeing what the company was all about. From the very first email I wrote to Hugh, it was nothing short of incredible. Our requests for ties and bow ties came very last-minute and we knew going into it there was a good chance a custom operation like HIM may not be able to work within our timeframe. We were happily proven wrong. Hugh met us at a fabric store in Denver, helped guide us through different patterns and variations, and let us make the ultimate decisions on our own. After the patterns were picked out, Hugh and Chris went right to work. Two days before our wedding, Chris personally delivered the ties to Amy's mother's house in Littleton. Given the super short notice, these guys pulled off 6 beautiful ties; one for myself and five for the groomsmen, along with two bow ties; one for my nephew and one for our dog. The ties were gorgeous, unique, and the passion and craftsmanship behind them was top-notch. Working with these two made part of our wedding planning that much easier. Go get some HIM ties!"
